For The Senses is driven to create architecture and interiors that improve people’s wellbeing. Giving consideration to form and function, and how the two combine to elevate our senses and emotions.

Great architecture should be judged by how it looks, how it enables us to live and how it makes us feel. The focus should never be on the eye at the expense of our other senses.

A more considered, holistic approach to architecture is not a new idea but it has always relied on a few enlightened developers and clients for it to be realised.

"We understand the relationship between architecture and our health and wellbeing"

Fortunately things are changing. Just as we understand the connection between a healthy body and healthy mind. Or between fulfilling work and a fulfilling life.

For The Senses create architecture and interiors that balance people’s functional and emotional needs. Working with developers and private clients, the aim is to realise the potential of thoughtful, intelligent design on creating spaces perfectly suited for modern life and for delivering long-term financial value.

Michael Serginson

BA(Hons), MArch, RIBA

Architect and Founder

Michael founded For the Senses to put his approach of considering the senses and emotions along with functional needs and aesthetics into practice. He has a passion for combining high-quality, sustainable design with warmth and personality to create life-enhancing architecture.

“For The Senses is all about making great design available to more people. Research shows that thoughtful, sympathetic architecture has the power to make our lives better and I want more people to benefit from spaces that enhance their lives.” Michael Serginson, founder.

Michael has a wealth of experience delivering residential projects in various local authorities across the UK. He has led projects of all sizes and budgets from renovations to large-scale new developments. He has useful hands-on experience of delivering projects on-time and on-budget in the trickiest of settings; including Conservation Areas, Listed Buildings and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Michael also has extensive commercial experience from projects in the UK, Middle East and Australia. He played a key role in designing and delivering the 90-unit outlet at The O2 Arena in London. His experience across hospitality, retail, leisure and education shapes our commercial offer at For the Senses.

The name For The Senses is inspired by the book The Eyes of the Skin from leading Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa which Michael first discovered whilst studying architecture at Northumbria University. The book continues to inspire his design ethos which has also been shaped by a belief in sustainable solutions like Passivhaus design and the possibilities of modern construction methods. As well as the importance of local context, historical notes and detailed site analysis on making each building and project unique.

Away from work Michael lives in Hackney with his partner and two children. He enjoys travelling and football.
